The family of the late actress Kim Sae Ron is pushing back firmly against claims made by her ex-boyfriend, accusations suggesting that family neglect played a role in her death.
In a phone interview with CBS No Cut News on March 25th, Kwon Young Chan, head of the Association for Celebrity Suicide Prevention, refuted those claims, saying, “Kim Sae Ron attempted to take her life nearly 20 times, and on 18 of those occasions, it was her parents who took her to the hospital.”
Kwon emphasized that the so-called ex-boyfriend only dated Kim for a month, making his statements “highly questionable in credibility.”
Kwon also addressed rumors that her agency, rather than her family, paid for past emergency surgery. “At the time, Sae Ron hadn’t contacted her mother, so her manager ‘B’ accompanied her,” he explained. According to him, Kim’s mother was working as a substitute driver at night and slept during the day to support the family.
He further elaborated on the mother-daughter relationship, stating, “Her mother gave up her own career to support Sae Ron. She opposed her transfer to Gold Medalist and tried to keep her away from Kim Soo Hyun, leading to a complicated love-hate relationship.”
He also challenged the reported 5.4 million KRW (approx. 3,700 USD) hospital bill. “No detailed invoice was provided, and for insured patients, standard treatments don’t come close to that amount.”
Kwon also raised concerns about potential information leaks during her attempted comebacks. He pointed to YouTuber Lee Jin Ho’s uploads of private footage and suggested that Manager B may have been the source. “B was a former executive at her previous agency and previously managed actress Han Ga In during ‘The Moon Embracing the Sun’,” he elaborated. “Managers of lead actors are often closely connected, so it’s hard to rule out his ties to Kim Soo Hyun.”
