The mediation between Yulhee and her ex-husband, FT Island’s Choi Min Hwan, regarding changes to child custody and property division has failed at the Seoul Family Court, making a formal lawsuit inevitable.

According to legal sources on March 14th, the Seoul Family Court held a mediation session on the 12th for the request filed by Yulhee against Choi for changes in parental rights and custody. The judge declared the mediation unsuccessful. As a result, the case is expected to proceed through a formal trial. The court division and trial date for their lawsuit have not yet been designated.

Yulhee and Choi married in 2018 and have three children—one son and two daughters—but finalized their divorce by mutual agreement in December 2023. At that time, they reportedly agreed not to exchange any damages or property division funds, and both custody and parental rights were granted to Choi.

However, in October last year, Yulhee claimed that her ex-husband alleged that he had visited prostitution establishments. Police investigated Choi but concluded the investigation with no charges, stating there was insufficient evidence to support violations of anti-prostitution laws or allegations of sexual assault.

Yulhee filed for mediation at the Seoul Family Court in November last year for changes to parental rights and custody. At that time, she reportedly demanded 100 million KRW (approximately 70,000 USD) in compensation for emotional damages, 1 billion KRW in property division, and custody and parental rights. She reportedly specified child support payments of 5 million KRW ($3,435) monthly until May 17th, 2037, and 3 million KRW monthly until February 10th, 2039, and submitted that Choi should bear the mediation costs.
