IU spilled some family tea that got everyone buzzing.

Appearing as a guest on the March 11th episode of “Salon Drip 2”, IU opened up about her latest Netflix series When Life Gives You Tangerines and gave fans a glimpse into her personal life.

Known for being somewhat introverted, IU still manages to have an extensive social circle in the entertainment industry. “I’m actually only in about four group chats,” she said with a laugh, adding that her most important one is the family chat.

“My family is pretty big. There are about 12 of us. Due to family circumstances, I lived with my female cousins since very young. Though we don’t share the same last name, I consider them my real sisters. Both of them are now married and has a child. Then there’s my mom, dad, grandmother, me, and my younger brother.”

The singer-actress joked about her designated family role: “My role is to give my brother a little ‘jab’ whenever he says something. That’s our dynamic,” adding that their families are like sitcoms in real life.

In peak sibling fashion, IU confessed with a mischievous grin, “I often tell my brother, ‘You should be a dutiful son. You think our parents would leave any inheritance to me when they pass away? You’ll probably inherit everything.'”

When Jang Do Yeon playfully asked if she was serious about opting out of her inheritance, IU quipped, “I don’t think they plan to leave me anything financially,” before revealing the family finance tea. “I’ve actually asked them about it before. I asked how they planned to distribute their assets, and my dad said they would ‘give equal amounts to all four people.’ So I just said, ‘I’m good, count me out, just divide it into thirds,'” surprising everyone.

Meanwhile, IU doesn’t exactly need the family piggy bank—she’s got her own real estate empire with a luxury apartment in Seoul’s swanky Cheongdam-dong (approximately 9.0 million USD), a creative studio in Gwacheon worth 3.2 million USD, and a vacation home in Yangpyeong purchased for around 2.1 million USD.
