Song Joong Ki is officially returning to KBS for the first time in nearly a decade.

His upcoming drama Love Cloud (literal title), co-starring Park Ji Hyun, has secured a weekend time slot on KBS2, according to industry reports on May 13th.

The series is set to premiere in the first half of next year, following the conclusion of the highly anticipated drama Great King Munmu. This project marks a significant homecoming for the actor, as it is his first KBS production since the 2016 drama Descendants of the Sun.

Love Cloud is a romantic comedy set on Jeju Island. Song Joong Ki stars as Kang Woo Ju, a former flight instructor turned air traffic controller, who reunites with a trainee pilot from his past, Ahn Ha Ni, played by Park Ji Hyun. Supporting actors Lee Si Woo and Choi Hee Jin are also in talks to join the cast, with director Song Min Yeop and the writing team Mad Rabbit at the helm.

While Song Joong Ki has spent the past several years expanding his range with gritty, high-concept hits like Vincenzo and Reborn Rich, Love Cloud signals a return to his roots as the “King of Rom-Coms.” Fans are particularly excited to see him back on a major terrestrial network, as his return to KBS ten years after his career-defining role as Captain Yoo Si Jin is expected to be one of the biggest television events of the coming year.
