In a revelatory interview with Zane Lowe about her upcoming solo album, Ruby, BLACKPINK superstar Jennie pulled back the curtain on her deeply personal track “Twin,” offering fans a rare glimpse into her private romantic history.
Lowe, who got an exclusive preview of the emotionally charged track, didn’t mince words when addressing its autobiographical nature. “It’s about someone, for sure. You aren’t writing that song cherry-picking emotions. That’s a letter,” he observed.
Caught off guard by his perceptiveness, Jennie confirmed with visible surprise, “Wow, you saw right through me.” The K-pop phenomenon then acknowledged the track’s intensely personal origins while explaining her decision to share something so intimate with her fans.
“That song is a very special song for me, maybe the most personal song,” Jennie admitted. “But by the time we were done with the song, I read it back and I was like, ‘Okay, people can resonate with this.’ There’s got to be someone that makes everyone feel this way.”
The songwriting process apparently served as emotional therapy for her, providing much-needed closure. “I think being truthful on that song gave me a conclusion, a clear thought on how I felt on that relationship,” she revealed. “There you go, that says it all. I’m writing my letter to you.”
While the identity of Jennie’s muse remains under wraps, “Twin” promises to give fans their most unfiltered look yet at the typically guarded star’s emotional world when Ruby drops.
