G-Dragon‘s long-awaited comeback has topped the charts but simultaneously ignited controversy over his sexually suggestive lyrics, creating a divide among fans.
On February 25th, G-Dragon returned to the music scene after an 11-year-and-5-month hiatus with his third studio album Übermensch. The title track “TOO BAD (feat. Anderson .Paak)” immediately dominated domestic streaming platforms, securing the #1 spot on all major Korean music charts.
While many internet users praised the release with comments like “That’s G-Dragon for you” and “So stylish, so hip,” others raised concerns about what they considered overly explicit content in his lyrics.
The title track “TOO BAD” contains lines that translate to “Holding hands gently, face-to-face, half-lidded eyes, making your G’azm rise” and “Your MBTI is SEXY TYPE so be my wife.”
The album track “BONAMANA” goes further with lyrics like “Having some fun without your man knowing” and “Climb on top of me and grind, Push me hard Scream Girl.” Another song “IBELONGIIU” features the lines “One bed, two sleepers, heart-pounding, thrilling silhouette” and “Day or night, what matters?”
Internet reactions have been polarized, with defenders arguing, “What’s the problem with artistic expression?” and “Pop lyrics are even more explicit,” while critics contend, “The lyrics are excessively sexual” and “It seems cheap.”
Meanwhile, G-Dragon is currently hosting his first-ever variety show Good Day.
