Netflix has greenlit production for its new series Boyfriend on Demand (working title), with Jisoo and Seo In Guk confirmed as leads in this innovative romantic comedy.
The series follows a webtoon producer who finds solace from her exhausting real life by subscribing to a virtual dating simulation. The premise promises to revolutionize the romance genre by combining relatable office life scenarios with the unique concept of a virtual world dating subscription.
Jisoo will transform into the role of Seo Mi Rae, a webtoon producer seeking a second chance at love through virtual reality. After growing accustomed to a romance-free existence in her hectic daily life, Mi Rae stumbles upon a “Boyfriend on Demand” device that opens the door to a virtual world. This super-charged dopamine boost offers her perfect, albeit virtual, romantic encounters with unrealistically perfect men that reawaken her dormant dating instincts.
Seo In Guk takes on the role of Park Kyung Nam, Mi Rae’s colleague and rival at work. While he’s the last person Mi Rae wants to encounter, he’s universally acknowledged as the company’s top performer. His seemingly indifferent and somewhat selfish personality masks an intriguing secret that promises to keep viewers guessing.
The series will be helmed by director Kim Jeong Sik of Work Later, Drink Now and No Gain No Love.
