SBS has confirmed Choi Woo Shik and Jung So Min as the leads for their highly anticipated romantic comedy Would You Marry Me (literal title), slated to air in the latter half of 2025.
The series follows a 90-day fake marriage survival story between two individuals vying for a luxury newlywed housing prize. Choi Woo Shik takes on the role of Kim Woo Joo, the fourth-generation heir and promising marketing team leader of Myungsundang, Korea’s first-ever confectionery with an 80-year history. His character, a perfectionist narcissist with a logical mind, becomes entangled in a business relationship with designer Yoo Me Ri, eventually becoming her fake husband.
Choi previously captured hearts in Our Beloved Summer as building illustrator Choi Ung, leading the K-Romance wave with his nuanced emotional performance and striking visuals. Fans are eager to see if he can create another career-defining rom-com through Would You Marry Me, which aims to flip the traditional romance paradigm with its marriage-before-love trope.
Jung So Min portrays Yoo Me Ri, a quirky and bold designer desperate to secure a luxury townhouse designated for newlyweds. Her character, having faced life’s trials, including her fiancé’s infidelity and a rental deposit scam, impulsively proposes to Kim Woo Joo, who shares the same name as her ex-fiancé, in an attempt to keep the newlywed house she won after her breakup.
Jung recently solidified her position as a rom-com queen through Love Next Door, where her sweet romance with an old-time friend earned intense viewer investment. Anticipation builds around her portrayal of the brazen yet bubbly Yoo Me Ri, as well as her chemistry with co-star Choi Woo Shik, given her reputation for creating magical on-screen sparks.
