Lee Yi Kyung couldn’t hold back tears while talking about his mother’s health on MBC’s Lunar New Year special episode Hangout with Yoo.
The January 30th episode featured Lee traveling to Inje, Gangwon Province, with HaHa and Joo Woo Jae. Opening up about his desire to travel with companions, Lee shared, “I’ve always been comfortable being alone since I was young. Traveling by myself became a habit. I even stayed in Thailand alone for two months in my 20s. While I’m at an age where being alone feels natural and most comfortable, I started thinking it would be nice to have someone with me.”
He continued, “Two years ago on my birthday, I was alone in Japan when I got a phone call. That’s when I wished someone was there with me.” Lee added, “If I had to name the people who feel like real brothers to me, it would be HaHa and Woo Jae. I want to know them more deeply, but we’re not quite there yet, so I’ve been thirsting for that connection.”
The conversation took an emotional turn when Lee revealed, “My mother had surgery a few days ago. She recently had heart surgery, and because she said she was doing great, I thought everything was fine.” His voice breaking, he continued, “But then my sister started crying while talking about mom. It was different from what I’d heard. My father said he was going to Thailand for a meeting, but actually, they went to a warm country together because it would help mom’s blood vessels expand.”
Breaking down in tears, Lee confessed, “I hate crying, so I didn’t talk about it. When something sad happens, I’m always the last to know and understand it wrong.”
