Lim Ji Yeon has finally addressed the backlash she received for applauding Jung Woo Sung during his public apology about his out-of-wedlock child, saying, “I didn’t expect such a reaction.”

In a recent interview promoting the finale of JTBC’s weekend drama The Tale of Lady Ok, which wrapped on the 26th, Lim opened up about the controversial moment that recently set social media ablaze.

The incident occurred at the 45th Blue Dragon Film Awards on November 29th, when Jung Woo Sung took the stage to address his relationship with model Moon Gabi and the revelation of their child together. During his somber apology, where Jung stated, “I sincerely apologize to everyone who has shown me love and expectations for causing concern and disappointment,” and “I will take all criticism upon myself. As a father, I will fulfill my responsibilities to my son until the end,” cameras caught Lim Ji Yeon enthusiastically applauding and cheering.

The moment became even more pronounced when viewers noticed Hyeri, seated next to Lim, giving her a bewildered look. The contrast between their reactions quickly went viral.

The timing couldn’t have been worse—public sentiment was strongly against Jung at the time, and Lim, who is signed to Jung’s entertainment agency Artist Company, faced immediate criticism. Some people didn’t hold back, commenting, “Is having a child out of wedlock something to cheer about?”, “Such behavior was inappropriate during a controversial situation,” and “That shows a lack of morals or ethics.”

Breaking her silence after about two months, Lim stated, “It was an unexpected reaction,” adding, “Since it was just a moment, it’s difficult to judge whether it was right or wrong.” She further explained, “I was particularly cautious since ‘The Tale of Lady Ok’ was airing at the time.”
