The production team of tvN’s hit historical drama The Queen Who Crowns has confirmed that the show’s buzzed-about intimate scenes featuring Lee E Dam and Cha Joo Young were enhanced using CGI effects.
According to OSEN, the provocative scenes in episodes 1 and 2, particularly those featuring Lee E Dam’s character Chae Ryeong receiving King Taejong’s (Lee Hyun Wook) royal favor, were created with the help of CGI technology.
A drama representative told OSEN, “The exposed body parts (of Lee E Dam) were processed with CGI according to the directorial intention.”
The tvN X TVING original series follows the story of Queen Wongyeong and her pursuit of power alongside her husband King Taejong. Since its premiere on January 6th, the series has garnered significant attention for its fresh interpretation of the historical couple’s relationship, told from the queen’s perspective.

The show’s most talked-about elements have been the bold performances by Cha Joo Young as Queen Wongyeong and Lee E Dam as her court lady Chae Ryeong. Their partially nude scenes sparked widespread discussion online. Production has now clarified that CGI enhancement was used to complement the exposed portions of both leading actresses’ scenes, as part of the show’s artistic direction in portraying both the political and marital relationships between Wongyeong and King Taejong.
The series continues to build momentum, with episode 4 achieving its highest ratings yet at 5.6% nationwide, peaking at 6.8%. The Queen Who Crowns airs on tvN every Monday and Tuesday at 8:50 PM KST, with two episodes dropping earlier on streaming platform TVING at 2 PM KST on Mondays.
