Lim Ji Yeon and Lee Jung Jae are confirmed to star in the upcoming romantic comedy Annoying Love (literal title). According to reports on November 20th, Lim Ji Yeon will play the lead opposite Lee Jung Jae, who’s marking his return to the romantic comedy genre after 15 years.

Annoying Love tells the story of an unexpected romance between a star actor, renowned for his detective roles but longing to take on a romantic lead, and a disgraced political journalist who is suddenly reassigned to the entertainment desk. Written by Jung Yeo Rang of Doctor Cha, and directed by Kim Ga Ram of 2024’s highly anticipated Good Partner, the series promises a fresh take on the rom-com genre. Studio & New will helm the production.

Lim Ji Yeon takes on the role of Wi Jung Sin, an eight-year veteran political reporter who once won the prestigious Journalist of the Year Award. After being demoted to entertainment reporting due to her involvement in a corruption investigation, she unexpectedly meets the star she once admired from afar—Im Hyun Joon. Her character’s transition from a career-focused journalist to a fan navigating the challenges of celebrity culture is expected to highlight Lim’s knack for nuanced performances.

Lee Jung Jae will play Im Hyun Joon, a world-famous actor known for his detective roles, stepping into his first romantic comedy since Triple in 2009.

Lim Ji Yeon has had a breakthrough year, earning global acclaim for her chilling role as Park Yeon Jin in Netflix’s hit series The Glory. The role earned her widespread accolades, including multiple Best Supporting Actress awards. Her recent projects, including Lies Hidden in My Garden and Revolver, have solidified her reputation as one of Korea’s most versatile actors. She is also set to star as the titular character in JTBC’s The Tale of Lady Ok, premiering on November 30th, before diving into Annoying Love.

Meanwhile, Lee Jung Jae is gearing up for the highly anticipated release of Squid Game Season 2.

Regarding their participation in Annoying Love, both actors’ agencies commented, “We have received offers for the project and are positively reviewing them.” The series is set to begin filming soon after finalizing its lead casting, with a release planned for next year.
