Netflix’s upcoming series The Trunk promises to deliver a mystery romance like no other, led by Seo Hyun Jin and Gong Yoo.
The series, premiering on November 29th, revolves around the secrets of a marriage service discovered through a mysterious trunk found floating by a lakeshore. Exploring the tangled emotions of love, compassion, obsession, and loneliness, The Trunk delves deeply into the intricate relationships of characters bound by a “contract marriage.”
With anticipation already high from the previous teaser, the newly released character stills further raise expectations. They highlight the complex dynamic between the “temporary spouses” No In Ji (Seo Hyun Jin) and Han Jeong Won (Gong Yoo), from their tense first meeting to their uniquely ordinary yet extraordinary married life.
In one still, No In Ji captivates viewers in a striking white wedding dress, her expression distant and devoid of joy. The image perfectly captures her character’s emptiness and emotional detachment. Speaking about No In Ji, Seo Hyun Jin shared, “No In Ji is a timid and fearful person, yet she has a strong sense of selflessness. I wanted to express 100% of her emotions but in a restrained way, like only showing 10%.”
Gong Yoo’s character, Han Jeong Won, intrigues with his cold and lonely aura. Haunted by the departure of his ex-wife Lee Seo Yeon (Jung Yunha), Jeong Won meets No In Ji with a hardened expression. The stills raise questions about how No In Ji will impact his lifeless, desolate world. Discussing his role, Gong Yoo said, “Han Jeong Won lives an emotionally unstable, lonely, and worn-out life. He’s a character who doesn’t reveal his true self and has strong self-defense mechanisms.”
Director Kim Kyu Tae expressed his excitement about working with the two stars, saying, “My top reason for taking on ‘The Trunk’ was the opportunity to work with Seo Hyun Jin and Gong Yoo. They exceeded all my expectations. Watching them collaborate, support, and encourage each other, they were such a ‘lovely pairing.'”
Meanwhile, The Trunk is based on the novel by Kim Ryeo Ryeong. The drama is directed by Kim Kyu Tae, who has helmed Our Blues and It’s Okay, That’s Love, and written by Park Eun Yeong, known for Hwarang.
