Moon Geun Young is opening up about life after recovery—and stepping into a new chapter with a fresh perspective.
In a preview for the upcoming episode of You Quiz on the Block, the actress reflects on turning 40 and how her outlook has changed following her battle with a rare illness.
Host Yoo Jae Suk warmly welcomes Moon Geun Young back, marking their first meeting in years. After a short small talk, the conversation turns more serious as Yoo brings up her past diagnosis of acute compartment syndrome, a condition he notes even sounds unfamiliar by name.
The actress recalled, “They said I had already passed the golden time and that necrosis could start, so I had to undergo emergency surgery. I heard that I told my mom, ‘Mom, I’m so glad I can finally rest easy now.’”
Despite the difficult experience, Moon hasn’t lost her upbeat spirit. She adds, “Maybe as my body’s gotten larger, my heart’s grown too—I feel more at ease now. My 40s actually feel kind of exciting,” offering a glimpse into her mindset today.
Moon was first diagnosed in 2017 while performing in a stage production of Romeo and Juliet, undergoing four surgeries and a long recovery period. Her agency previously confirmed that she had been rushed into emergency surgery after experiencing sudden pain in her right arm.
She ultimately shared news of her full recovery in 2024. During her treatment, she continued working steadily, appearing in projects like Catch the Ghost, The Sea of Memory and Hellbound Season 2, while also stepping behind the camera to take on directing. She additionally returned to the stage for the first time in nine years with the play Orphans.
Now, as she prepares to reconnect with audiences, Moon Geun Young is embracing both her health and a new decade with renewed energy.
