NewJeans’ Hanni has confirmed her intention to appear at the upcoming South Korean National Assembly audit of state affairs, aka National Assembly Hearing.

On the 9th, Hanni took to the fan communication platform Phoning, where she shared, “I’ve made my decision. I will attend the National Assembly for the upcoming hearing.”

Explaining her reasons for testifying, Hanni reassured her fans, “Don’t worry. I want to do this for myself, for the members, and for Bunnies [NewJeans’ fandom].” She added that she has yet to inform her agency, ADOR, saying, “My manager and the company don’t know yet, but this is the right decision. I’ll do my best.”

Hanni emphasized that her decision was made with the group and their fans in mind, stating, “I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I’m sure it’ll be a valuable learning experience,” and stressed, “I’ll protect NewJeans and Bunnies.”

The announcement comes after the Environment and Labor Committee held a meeting on September 30th, during which they discussed witnesses and references for the upcoming National Assembly Hearing. Hanni, along with ADOR’s CEO Kim Ju Young and 33 others, was selected to testify at the audit, set for October 25th. The audit will involve the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Economic, Social, and Labor Council.

Committee Chair Ahn Ho Young explained the selection, saying, “We aim to thoroughly investigate the darker side of K-pop, including workplace bullying and the reality faced by workers outside the protection of labor laws.” Hanni is expected to address concerns regarding workplace mistreatment during her appearance at the hearing.
