In a candid moment on TV Chosun’s Now I’m Alone, Jo Yoon Hee revealed the reasons behind her divorce from Lee Dong Gun to her daughter and her friends.
During the episode aired on the 30th, Jo Yoon Hee hosted a pajama party for her daughter Roa’s friends. When one of the children asked, “What is Roa doing tomorrow?” the actress replied, “She’s going to see her dad.” The child then inquired, “Isn’t Roa’s dad not coming today?” To which Jo Yoon Hee explained, “Roa doesn’t live with her dad. Her dad and I don’t live together because we separated.”
When asked why they separated, Jo Yoon Hee openly stated, “We fought, and I just don’t like him anymore.” Announcer Choi Dong Seok, who was observing, expressed surprise at her frankness, asking, “Do you really talk about these things so openly?” Jo Yoon Hee responded, “I can’t lie about it.”
In a separate interview, Jo Yoon Hee elaborated, “I couldn’t lie. If I hide things, my daughter might think she also needs to hide things, or she might feel something is wrong. I always explain to her that families come in many different forms. I make it clear that Roa still has her dad, and I honestly answer any questions she has.”
Jo Yoon Hee and Lee Dong Gun met while filming the KBS drama The Gentlemen of Wolgyesu Tailor Shop. They married in 2017 and had a daughter the same year but amicably divorced in 2020. Jo Yoon Hee was granted custody of their daughter.
