The recent comments from the parents of NewJeans members about their daughters’ harsh pre-debut living conditions have sparked renewed interest in similar stories from other K-pop idols, particularly BLACKPINK.

On the 24th, the mothers of NewJeans members Minji, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein shared their experiences in an interview. Minji’s mother recalled her shock upon visiting the house where her daughter stayed as a trainee under Source Music, describing the place as moldy and infested with cockroaches.

This revelation led fans to revisit a similar story shared by BLACKPINK members about their pre-debut days. The members had once candidly talked about their struggles, jokingly but sincerely reflecting on the tough times they faced due to financial constraints. Jennie, in particular, recounted, “We lived with cockroaches,” while Jisoo chimed in, “God, the cockroaches!” and Rosé mentioned encountering large centipedes.

Jisoo humorously recounted the experience, saying, “We didn’t even try to catch them. We just placed a paper cup over it, but they always managed to crawl out.” She added how Lisa was the bravest among them, taking charge when they had to deal with the bugs. Jennie reflected on those challenging times, noting that people only remember their second home with better conditions, highlighting the unseen struggles they endured together.

The connection between NewJeans’ recent revelations and BLACKPINK’s past experiences has sparked a variety of reactions from fans. Comments ranged from, “Did BLACKPINK’s parents also know their daughters lived with cockroaches?” to “BLACKPINK really went through tough times,” and “Their resilience is inspiring.”
