Kim So Hyun recently sat down for a wrap-up interview celebrating the conclusion of tvN’s My Lovely Liar.
My Lovely Liar follows “Liar Hunter” Mok Sol Hee (Kim So Hyun), who can hear lies, and genius composer Kim Do Ha (Hwang Minhyun), who harbors his own secrets.
On the day of the interview, the actress didn’t hesitate to share her experience working with her co-star Hwang Minhyun. “In the beginning, he pretty much wore a mask the whole time. Given that his character is inherently distant, it felt frustrating and somewhat awkward on set. We kept that vibe going even on the set,” she revealed. But as time went on, things started to change. She shared, “Once we loosened up a bit and had scenes where we got all flirty or had fun, he turned out to be a real prankster. I’m a bit of a jokester myself, so we just went with it.”
With their undeniable on-screen chemistry, it’s no surprise that the romantic comedy’s quintessential flower—the kiss scene—grabbed plenty of attention. Kim So Hyun candidly confessed, “I heard it was Hwang Minhyun’s first time doing this level of a two-way romance. So this was his first kiss scene. That added a bit of pressure.”
Kim continued, “I never thought of myself as someone who leads, but then I wondered if I should. We were really close on set and teased each other a lot. The director did a great job easing us into those scenes.” On the tender moments, she added, “Initially, it had a somewhat innocent vibe. But the director said, ‘It’s too innocent, like high-schoolers.’ So, there was some talk about dialing things up a bit. We had a lot of discussions about the little things like where to place our hands.”
My Lovely Liar ended with Mok Sol Hee quitting being a Liar Hunter despite retaining her lie-detecting ability. Kim speculated on the couple’s future, saying, “After the ending, I feel like Do Ha would probably be a bit more honest. He can’t keep always being honest forever. And Sol Hee would be someone who could see past the lies, to the sincerity within. Despite her lie-detecting abilities, I think they’d bicker and live like any ordinary couple.”
