The 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards officially announced this year’s nominees on April 13th, sparking intense debate, particularly over the Best Actress category in the Television division.

The final list features Kim Go Eun and Park Ji Hyun for Netflix’s You and Everything Else, Shin Hae Sun for Netflix’s The Art of Sarah, Park Bo Young for tvN’s Our Unwritten Seoul and Yoona for tvN’s Bon Appétit, Your Majesty. While these nominees are undeniably talented, the exclusion of Kim Yoo Jung from the TVING original series Dear X has left many questioning the selection process.

Dear X, which aired from November to late December last year, follows Baek Ah Jin (played by Kim Yoo Jung), a woman who wears a mask to escape her hellish past and climb to the top, and the victims she ruthlessly tramples along the way.

Kim Yoo Jung not only embodied the original webtoon character perfectly but also completely shed her “child actress” image with a magnetic, villainous transformation. Her ability to move between cold, calculated moments and manic rage earned glowing reviews, with fans noting that it was “impossible to imagine anyone else as Baek Ah Jin.” Before the nominations were released, she was widely considered a lock for the category, yet her name was nowhere to be found.

The shock grew even bigger when it became clear that Dear X didn’t receive a single nomination in any category. This led to accusations of a “Kim Yoo Jung snub” and even a “TVING snub,” with some suggesting the series may have been deliberately overlooked.

Park Shin Hye was also notably absent from the list despite earning rave reviews for her role in Undercover Miss Hong

The current nominees are certainly strong—including the leads of You and Everything Else for their heavy-hitting take on euthanasia, Shin Hae Sun’s “legendary” turn in The Art of Sarah, Park Bo Young’s dual roles in Our Unwritten Seoul and YoonA’s performance in the ratings juggernaut Bon Appétit, Your Majesty. However, with only five slots available per category, fans find it hard to reconcile that one show claimed two nominations while powerhouses like Kim Yoo Jung and Park Shin Hye were shut out entirely.

The controversy isn’t limited to the acting categories; even variety icon Yoo Jae Suk failed to secure a nomination, both for his individual work and his viral web hit Pinggyego.

These high-profile snubs have sparked a heated public debate, casting a shadow of skepticism over this year’s Baeksang Arts Awards before the ceremony has even begun.
