tvN’s weekend drama Bon Appétit, Your Majesty has taken the top spot on Netflix’s global Non-English TV chart, cementing its status as one of the hottest K-dramas of the year.
According to Netflix’s official Tudum site on September 17th, the series rose to No. 1 in its fourth week, after debuting in the Top 10 in its opening week and holding the No. 2 spot for two consecutive weeks.
Domestically, the drama has also been a ratings powerhouse. The September 14th broadcast of episode eight recorded a nationwide average of 15.4% (Nielsen Korea), breaking past the coveted 15% barrier. In addition, the show ranked No. 1 in Good Data Corporation’s weekly TV and OTT drama buzz index for the fourth consecutive week. YoonA held the No. 1 spot among performers for four weeks straight, while co-star Lee Chae Min also consistently ranked high.
The series has been equally well received abroad. Rotten Tomatoes lists the show with a 98% “Popcornmeter” audience score—tied for the highest among Netflix TV shows released in 2024 as of September.
Major international outlets have taken notice. Time magazine praised the series’ use of a fictional tyrant as a backdrop, writing: “It’s a smart decision, as ‘Bon Appétit, Your Majesty’ is not primarily interested in telling an historical story. Rather, it seeks to tell an escapist and entertaining love story using a historical setting as a fantasy backdrop.”
U.S. review site Decider also applauded the mix of genres: “Bon Appétit, Your Majesty doubles down on interesting K-drama wrinkles, couching the romcom structure around both time-travel and cooking, both of which serve to liven up the story between the main characters.”
