No leading ladies in the second season of Squid Game? Unlikely.

OSEN reported on the 26th that Kim Si Eun has been cast as a female lead in Netflix’s Squid Game 2, penned and directed by Hwang Dong Hyuk. The specific role she will play is yet to be revealed, heightening anticipation if she might be next to carry the baton of popularity from Jung Ho Yeon (Kang Sae Byeok in season 1).

The actress’ agency KeyEast was discreet on the matter, stating, “We cannot confirm these details at this time. We ask for your understanding.”

Kim Si Eun first caught attention when her movie Next Sohee was selected as the closing film for Critics’ Week at the 75th Cannes Film Festival (2022). She then won the Best New Actress in the film category at the 59th Baeksang Arts Awards for her role in the film.

According to SPOTVNEWS, Jo Yuri has also joined the second season, while news of Park Kyu Young’s participation stirred interest a few days back. However, both of their agencies have been cautious, stating they “cannot confirm.”

Recently, Netflix announced the official cast for the second season of the sensational series Squid Game at the Tudum fan event in Brazil. With a keen interest in the show, which became the most popular and talked-about show in Netflix history, they confirmed that Lim Si Wan, Kang Ha Neul, Park Sung Hoon, and Yang Dong Geun will be joining the returning main cast members, including Lee Jung Jae, Lee Byung Hun, Wi Ha Jun, and Gong Yoo, for season 2.
