Ji Chang Wook and. Shin Hye Sun are teaming up for a heartwarming drama that paints a love story sprouting in Jeju.

On the 19th, the JTBC new drama Welcome to Samdali (literal title) announced the casting news of Ji Chang Wook and Shin Hye Sun. Welcome to Samdali is a story about Yong Pil and Sam Dal, who were born and raised in Samdali. The story unfolds as Sa Ddal, after losing everything, returns to her hometown. This will be the first collaboration between When the Camellia Blooms director Cha Young Hoon and Go Back Couple writer Kwon Hye Joo.

Ji Chang Wook steps into the role of Jo Yong Pil, a weather forecaster for the Jeju Meteorological Agency. Known as “the crazy one” at the main office, he is renowned for challenging forecasts and even engaging in disputes with his boss. Yong Pil’s dream of becoming a forecaster grew out of a tragedy— he lost haenyeo mother (meaning a female diver) due to a faulty weather forecast. He now fights fiercely to protect Jeju.

Shin Hye Sun plays a famous photographer named Jo Sam Dal, a native of the island. She nursed a dream of escaping to Seoul and plunged into the fashion photography industry under the pseudonym “Jo Eun Hye.” After enduring for eight years, she reaches the top but has to return to the island after an incident that brought her to rock bottom.

Yong Pil and Sam Dal, both born and raised in Samdali, are childhood buddies. They have spent more days together than apart in their lives. With Sam Dal’s return to her hometown, their relationship begins to change, evolving from friendship to love.

The production team welcomed the two actors’ first project at JTBC, anticipating that “both of them will display performances filled with bright and cheerful energy.”
