K-pop fans are calling out IVE girls for lip-synching the song they already covered.

At the end of 2022, IVE performed at all three networks’ music events – SBS Gayo Daejeon, KBS Song Festival, and MBC Gayo Daejejeon. From group performances to covers of other singers’ hit songs, the girls showed off their charms on various stages.

What became the talk of the town (in a bad way) was Jang Wonyoung and Leeseo’s cover of IU’s “Strawberry Moon” at the MBC Gayo Daejejeon, held on the 31st. For the songs, the two girls sat on chairs against the pink-colored backdrop, but their “performance” was clearly lip-synched. It was even more evident in the high-pitched part of the song.

One person even alleged that they used the same audio recorded for their previous cover of the song uploaded on IVE’s YouTube channel in July of last year. Although lip-synching can be common in the K-pop scene, people were critical of the fact it was an old cover and that the girls were “seated.”

These are some of the comments: “Even their lip-synching was without effort…” “It just looked like a competition to see who would be prettier on-screen,” “They gave a new meaning to….’sitting pretty'” and “Just thinking about how many other vocally talented lesser-known female artists would be grateful to get a chance to sing on a special stage.”
