The King’s Affection became the first K-drama to win the International Emmys.

At the 50th International Emmy Awards held in New York on the 21st, The King’s Affection won the Best Telenovela award, beating out other critically acclaimed projects from China, Spain and Brazil. It was the first win for a Korean series.

This historical romance drama revolves around a princess pretending to be a prince. When the crown prince is killed, his twin sister assumes the throne while trying to keep her identity and affection for her first love a royal secret. Park Eun Bin and SF9’s Rowoon starred in the show.

The King’s Affection has already proven its cinematic quality by winning Best Writer at the 17th Seoul Drama Awards and Best Actress at the 49th Korean Broadcasting Awards.

Lee Kun Joon, head of the KBS Drama Center, shared his joy, “I am very happy that The King’s Affection won the International Emmy Award for the first time as a Korean drama. I believe it shows how the potential of the Korean series is getting recognized.” He added, “We feel a great sense of responsibility because it is a time when K-content is receiving love all over the world. We will do our best so that KBS dramas can play a big role in maintaining K-content potential.”
