Remarriage & Desires is winning the hearts of global fans.
According to FlixPatrol, the series ranked No.8 on Netflix’s popular TV shows as of July 22nd. Surprisingly, the genre of ‘makjang,’ which is loved by Korean audience despite the ridiculous plotlines and unwanted melodrama, seemed to have clicked with overseas viewers. The drama quickly unfolds as it shows Jin Yoo Hee’s (played by Jung Eugene) desire to marry into money, Hae Seung’s grudge against her for ruining her life and Lee Hyeong Joo (Lee Hyun Wook)’s plan to get a trophy wife.
Perhaps the provocative settings of the drama have stimulated the curiosity of viewers around the world. On IMDB’s user review section, a couple of users gave it 10/10 stars and wrote: “Addictive” and “Best Revenge K-Drama Ever!”
In South Korea, Remarriage & Desires rose to No.2 on the list of most-watched Korean shows, thanks to the good words from many viewers. The comment section of the drama is filled with comments like, “I happened to watch the show and couldn’t stop watching.” Reports say that the drama being only eight episodes long like American shows played a big part in attracting new viewers.
Such a trend in the industry provided opportunities for The Escape of the Seven and Lady (working title) to get released on streaming platforms upon their TV premieres. Both works are written by Kim Soon Ok, a famous screenwriter for many ‘makjang’ dramas.
