Space Sweepers has been nominated for the 2022 Hugo Awards and a Nebula Award, which are given to works of science fiction or fantasy.
The 80th World Science Fiction Convention announced the finalists for the 2022 Hugo Awards on April 7th. The South Korean film will be competing with Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, Disney’s Encanto, David Lowery’s The Green Knight, Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and WandaVision for the prize called Best Dramatic Presentation, Long Form.
The next day, the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA) announced the final nominees for the 57th Annual Nebula Awards. Space Sweepers fell under the category of Outstanding Dramatic Presentation with flicks like Encanto, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Rocky, The Green Knight and WandaVision.
Space Sweepers is the first South Korean work to be nominated by the two awards since they were both launched. However, it is highly unlikely that the film will win any of the awards as many anticipate Dune will be taking its Hugo Awards trophy home this year.
The movie won rave reviews worldwide since its February release of last year and ranked No.1 on Netflix’s TOP 10 list in the world.
