JTBC’s Thirty-Nine is on the rise, with its third episode scoring a viewership rating of 7.8 percent. In the latest episode, Jeong Chan Young (Jeon Mi Do) learned about her impending death.
Cha Mi Jo (Son Ye Jin), who first heard about her friend’s illness, visits Chan Young’s ex-boyfriend Kim Jin Seok (Lee Moo Saeng). She lets out her anger at him and grabs him by the throat. She even slaps his wife and drags her by her hair. After seeing the unusual behavior of her friend, Chan Young instantly feels that something was wrong.
Mi Jo tries to talk about Chan Young’s check-up results with Jang Joo Hee (Kim Ji Hyun). However, she fails to do so as Joo Hee tells her that her mother’s cancer has traumatized her.
Eventually, Mi Jo shares her worries with Kim Seon Woo (Yeon Woo Jin). Seon Woo comforts her, and Mi Jo gathers herself before visiting Chan Young’s practice room. However, she finds it hard to address the issue. Chan Young makes a joke to Mi Jo, saying, “People change when they are about to die. Do you have a terminal illness or something?”
It is hard for Mi Jo to notify her friend of her stage-four pancreatic cancer, so she asks Chan Young to go to the hospital with her instead. As Mi Jo hesitates to tell her the truth, Chan Young becomes certain that she is facing a worst-case scenario. Mi Jo repeatedly says, “Nothing bad will happen to us. We are only in our 30s. We need to enjoy our life more.” However, tears well up in her eyes as Chan Young’s eyes fills with tears.
