According to Nielsen Korea, the December 3rd broadcast of The Red Sleeve recorded average nationwide viewership ratings of 10.7 percent, taking first place in its time slot across all channels. The most-watched moment in the episode saw the ratings peak at 11.6 percent.

The Red Sleeve, which premiered at the same time as SBS’ Now, We Are Breaking Up, initially drew little attention when it first aired. But more viewers started tuning into the show as its plot thickened and the cast’s chemistry developed. The new interpretation of the relationship between Yi San (King Jeongjo) and Seong Deok Im and the accuracy of the historical facts have received favorable reviews.
