Escape from Mogadishu was selected as the country’s entry for the best international feature film category of the 94th Academy Awards.

The movie is about the desperate struggle of a group of diplomats attempting to survive and escape from the 1991 civil war that broke out in Somalia.

The Korean Film Council (KOFIC) explained why they selected the film to represent the country at next year’s Oscars, saying, “Based on a true story at the Somalian civil war in 1991, Escape from Mogadishu is an impressive work with quality action sequences and suspense. Plus, the dramatic tension and cooperation between the two Koreas and the fact it’s already receiving rave reviews from the public made us choose the film.” They continued, “Since Parasite opened the door for Korean films to make their stand at international film festivals, we wish Escape from Mogadishu will continue to bring international attention to Korean films.”
