Credit: BIFFThe 26th BIFF (Busan International Film Festival) chose director Im Sang Soo’s Heaven: To the Land of Happiness as the opening film. With this, the movie will have its premiere at the event.
Heaven: To the Land of Happiness is a delightful and lyrical road movie of an escaped prisoner “203” (Choi Min Sik) and Nam Sik (Park Hae Il). “203” has not much time left in his life, and Nam Sik has no money. When they get their hands on a large sum of money, they go on a trip together as they dream about the “grand finale” of their lives.
It’s the first movie director Im Sang Soo released in six years since his 2015 movie Intimate Enemies. Last year, Heaven: To the Land of Happiness was invited to the Cannes as the “Cannes Official Selection 2020,” making it Im’s 4th movie to be invited to the festival.
Choi Min Sik took on the role of prisoner “203,” who broke out of the prison to find the final happiness of his life. Park Hae Il played Nam Sik, who somehow joins the special trip of “203.” The synergy between these two veteran actors is one of the most charming points of the work. On top of that, Academy Award award-winning actress Youn Yuh Jung turned into glamorous “Madam Youn.”
Meanwhile, this year’s BIFF will take place from October 6th to 15th.
