BTS has topped the Billboard Hot 100 for a whopping nine weeks in a row.

On Monday (local time), Billboard announced that BTS’s “Butter” returned to No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100. “Butter” had spent the previous seven weeks at No. 1 before being replaced with “Permission to Dance.” And this week, “Butter” replaced BTS’s own “Permission to Dance,” adding the eighth week on top.

Billboard also covered the news with the title, “BTS’ ‘Butter’ Returns to No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100, Ties For 2021’s Longest Rule.” The article added, “The song spends an eighth week on top, matching the reign of Olivia Rodrigo’s “Drivers License.”

According to MRC Data, “Butter” drew 30.7 million radio airplay audience impressions (up 2%) and 8.8 million U.S. streams (down 21%) in the week ending July 22nd.

Billboard added, “As ‘Butter’ replaces ‘Permission to Dance’ at No. 1 on the Hot 100, a week after ‘Permission to Dance’ took over for ‘Butter,’ BTS is the first act to displace itself at No. 1 with a new leader and then send the previous No. 1 back to the summit with no other acts holding the top spot in between.”

Meanwhile, “Butter” blasted atop once again on Billboard’s Digital Song Sales Chart, while “Permission to Dance” fell to No. 2.
