SM Entertainment released an official statement regarding their recent decision about the sasaeng fans. The word Sasaeng refers to an obsessive fan who stalks or engages in other behavior constituting an invasion of the privacy of celebrities, specifically Korean idols.

Up until now, the sasaengs were considered a necessary evil. That’s why agencies, including SM Entertainment, have maintained a neutral attitude towards their over-the-line behaviors. SM artists, such as TVXQ, Girls’ Generation, SHINee, EXO, Red Velvet, NCT, and more, have been constantly targeted by the sasaeng fans.

But as of today, SM Entertainment will no longer tolerate “sasaengs” that endanger artists and invade their private lives. From now on, the company will seek strict legal action against those who commit acts that are considered “sasaeng behaviors.”
