[Weekly Up & Down] ‘Recalled’ Tops Weekend Box Office vs. ‘Taxi Driver’ Comes Under Fire for “Awkward” Action Scenes

SG Wannabe Climbs Up the Music Chart for Good Reasons

SG Wannabe’s popularity is a hot topic. In the recent episode of Hangout with Yoo, which aired on 17th, SG Wannabe performed the medley of their hit songs, including “Timeless,” “Arirang,” “As I Live,” and “RA RA RA.” Soon after the broadcast, those hit songs climbed back up on the music charts. “Timeless” even ranked 1st on Genie Music’s real-time chart. Furthermore, SG Wannabe’s clips posted on Hangout with Yoo‘s YouTube channel have already reached 1 million views, proving their hot popularity.

In response, Kim Yong Jun shared, “Everyone must be going through a tough time with the coronavirus these days. And if our songs could comfort you a little bit, that would make this night perfect.” Lee Seok Hoon and Kim Jin Ho also expressed their gratitude.

‘Recalled’ Tops Box Office the First Weekend of Its Release

Recalled topped the box office on the first weekend of its release. According to Korea Film Council, the movie attracted 101,63 moviegoers in three days (April 23rd to April 25th). By accumulating 136,040 admissions, Recalled rose to the top of the Korean box office. Right before the release, Seo Ye Ji got caught up in various controversies and sat out of all the promotional events. But such attention eventually led to the interest in the movie. Though Recalled was released amid many issues, it successfully garnered favorable reviews. Plus, the “free coupon” promotion certainly helped with the sale.

The entertainment industry was put on alert once again due to coronavirus. TV personality Kwon Hyuk Soo and musical actor Son Jun Ho were tested positive for COVID-19. And those who came in contact with them got tested soon. First, Kwon appeared on MBC FM4U Jun Hyo Seong’s Dreaming Radio on the 19th, three days before he was tested positive. Soon, DJ Jun Hyo Seong and STAYC, who appeared on the 20th, got tested for COVID-19. Since then, they have gone into self-isolation.

On April 23rd, Son tested positive for coronavirus. As a result, multiple musical performances were canceled. Min Woo Hyuk, singer Kim Junsu, and golf coach Park Seri, who came in contact with Son, were tested. Later, Park Seri tested positive for COVID-19. Hence, all her shows, including Sporty Sisters, are keeping an eye on the situation.

‘Taxi Driver’ Comes Under Fire for Awkward Action Sequences

Taxi Driver came under fire for doing a sloppy job with Lee Je Hoon’s action scenes played out by his stunt double. The scene of Kim Do Gi overpowering the gangster in episode 4, which aired on the 17th, became a problem. It was pointed out that Lee’s stunt double had a different build and hairstyle from the actor and that such difference disturbed the viewer to get immersed in the story. These are some of the comments: “The stunt double is the lead actor,” “So in every action scene, Lee Je Hoon disappears?” “That was terrible editing,” and “I was surprised when a totally different person showed up.”
