Hong Jin Young posted a photo on her social media account early on the 4th without any captions. The picture was a snowy landscape. This is the first time in two months that she posted something on SNS after her self-written apology for plagiarism, last December.

With the return of her online presence, netizens are paying attention to whether she will fully resume her activities. The singer halted all activities after her thesis was revealed to be plagiarized. Hong Jin Young’s master’s thesis titled “A Study on the Trend of the Cultural Content Industry through the Korean Wave” was found to be plagiarized with a 74% rate on CopyKiller – a plagiarism reviewing site. Hong Jin Young refuted the claim saying that the paper was reviewed in 2009 when it was a trend to reference a lot of quotations. However, the controversy did not subside.

The Chosun University Committee also tentatively concluded that Hong Jin Young’s master’s thesis was plagiarized. On the matter, the singer admitted to plagiarizing and apologized saying, “I should have apologized properly, but I was busy making excuses instead of reflecting on myself. I have not been mature enough.”

Since then, Hong Jin Young has continued to carry out acts of goodness such as donating 30 million Won (approximately 26.8k USD) as COVID-19 relief funds.
