EXO’s Kai came under fire for his rash words and actions after he held a “no mask” birthday party in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
On Jan 14, Kai hosted a live broadcast on his Instagram to mark his 28th birthday. He opened up the broadcast, sharing, “I’ve always held birthday parties with you every year, but I couldn’t this year cause it’s so dangerous. So I came here for you guys at midnight.”
But he rashly added “incorrect” information, saying, “You know the health regulation these days – no meetings with more than 5 people. So I’m going to have a small party with 3 other people. Meetings with 4 people are all okay.”
Though meetings with less than 5 people are required, this doesn’t necessarily mean all meetings with less than 4 people are okay. Previously, health authorities stated, “It doesn’t mean it’s safe or okay if less than 4 gathered. Even if there are no more than four people, they can still be fined if they do not follow basic rules such as wearing a mask.”
However, Kai introduced his close friends Ravi and Kim Timoteo, who appeared without a mask, and soon, he also took his mask off, worrying the fans. The fact that his words and actions showed a lack of understanding in the quarantine rules, leaving a bitter aftertaste.
