Song Joong Ki will be on the stage as a host at the global music awards ceremony Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) for the first time in two years.

On Nov 24, Mnet confirmed that they have cast Song Joong Ki as emcee for the upcoming 2020 MAMA, scheduled to be held on Dec 6. Song Joong Ki has led the awards ceremony in 2012, 2017 and 2018.

The artist lineup for this year’s MAMA, which marks the 12th anniversary this year, is also a hot topic. BTS, SEVENTEEN, TWICE, NCT, MAMAMOO, GOT7, MONSTA X, and more will take the stage to gift fans with splendid performances.

The 2020 MAMA will be held under the concept of “NEW-TOPIA,” which means that fans around the world can be connected together and meet anew through music. But due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the event will be held online only.

This event is especially meaningful for Song Joong Ki as this is only the second official appearance he is making since his divorce, following the press conference for Space Sweepers. As he has established himself as one of the biggest Hallyu stars through Descendants of the Sun and Arthdal Chronicles, expectations are high on how he will light up the MAMA, one of the biggest global festivals that highlights the end of the year, along with domestic and foreign stars.
