Recently, it was reported that New Line Cinema will produce the Hollywood remake of The Man from Nowhere. The fact that John Wick director Chad Stahelski participates in the production made headlines. Attention was also drawn to Won Bin, who has been on a hiatus since 2010. Let’s look at the works Won Bin refused during this time.
One of the hit movies Won Bin turned down was Train to Busan, a disaster blockbuster directed by Yeon Sang Ho. The role that Gong Yoo played (Suk Woo) was originally offered to Lee Byung Hun and Won Bin. However, Won Bin declined the offer as he believed that Suk Woo doesn’t play a prominent role.
Won Bin was also offered Jo In Sung’s role in That Winter, The Wind Blows. But Won Bin wanted to keep the main character’s job as a host like the original drama, but writer Noh Hee Kyung tried to change it to a gambler, which led to Won Bin’s decline.
The Battleship Island was a work that Won Bin refused to appear in. The exact role Won Bin rejected is not known, but considering Won Bin’s age, it is inferred that it’s probably Choi Chil Sung (So Ji Sub) or Park Moo Young (Song Joong Ki).
Won Bin almost appeared in the 2012 drama The King 2 Hearts as Lee Jae Ha (Lee Seung Gi). Won Bin was positively considering his appearance on the condition that the production company keep his appearance as a secret until the filming starts. However, they still announced Won Bin’s appearance, and the actor exited the project.
Along with the Gods franchise’s Kang Rim role (Ha Jung Woo) was first offered to Won Bin, Gong Yoo, and Kim Woo Bin. However, it is said that Won Bin rejected the offer after considering various factors, including the fellow actors and story.
Descendants of the Sun is also included in the list. Won Bin was offered to star as Yoo Shi Jin (Song Joong Ki), but finally refused. If he confirmed his appearance, we might have seen Won Bin in military uniform once again.
Last June, Won Bin finally declined the offer he got from drama Immortal (literal translation), referring to the pressure of his return as the reason. Though we do enjoy seeing him on commercials, we still hope to see him on a sound project soon.
