The film Moving On won the Uncaged Award for Best Feature Film in the 19th New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF).
Greennarae Media, the distribution company, said, “At the 19th NYAFF, Moving On became the only Korean film to win the best feature film award, upping the profile of K-movies.”
The 19th New York Asian Film Festival, held from Aug. 28 to Sept. 12, is a representative Asian film festival in North America that selects only the most unique and interesting films in various genres.
Moving On tells the story of two siblings Okju and Dongju moving into their grandpa’s house during their summer vacation after their father goes broke.
“With her directorial debut, director Yoon Dan Bi showed such masterful restraint with beautiful, lively and sincere details. The film felt very personal to the filmmaker and also to those of us watching it,” said the judges of NYAFF. “The film will give you a powerful resonance.”
The Uncaged Award goes to rookie directors for their debut or second feature film. Microhabitat (2018), directed by Jeon Go Woon, took home the award at the 17th NYAFF.
Moving On was the only Korean film to advance to the main competition this year. Secret Zoo, Lucky Chan-sil, Baseball Girl, Kim Ji-young, Born 1982, Beasts Clawing at Straws, Forbidden Dream, and Beauty Water were screened virtually for the festival.
