Na Hong Jin’s film Hope has set a new opening-day box office record for a Korean film in France this year.
According to production company Forged Films, Hope opened across 192 screens in France on October 28th, earning approximately $800,000 on its first day, the highest opening-day gross among Korean films released in the country in 2026.
The film also ranked second at the Paris box office on October 31st, during its opening weekend. Paris is a key theatrical market, accounting for approximately 31% of France’s total box office revenue.
The film’s momentum extended to Belgium, where it opened on 38 screens and grossed approximately $64,000. The figure significantly exceeded the opening grosses of Park Chan Wook’s Decision to Leave (2022) and Lee Chang Dong’s Burning (2018) in the country.
A representative expressed confidence that the film’s European performance would further demonstrate the international interest it has attracted since its premiere at the 79th Cannes Film Festival.
Hope follows the chief of a police outpost in the remote harbor village of Hopo Port, whose investigation into reports of a tiger sighting leads him to confront an unimaginable reality.
