Seo Yea Ji is set to return to the big screen in Geumwoldo (literal title), a mystery thriller inspired by historical accounts of cannibalism recorded in the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty.
Her agency, B.Wave Entertainment, confirmed on November 4th that the actress will play Kim Ji Hu in the film, directed by Le Grand Chef 2: Kimchi Battle helmer Baek Dong Hun.
Set on a remote Korean island with an isolated community, the film will explore a distinctly Korean take on vampire mythology, drawing on historical records rather than conventional Western vampire lore.
Seo plays a woman who travels to the mysterious island of Geumwoldo after receiving a message from her mother. As she investigates a series of strange incidents, she begins uncovering hidden truths while confronting her own fate.
Known for dramas including It’s Okay to Not Be Okay and Eve, Seo recently made her stage debut in the play The Hymn of Death. The upcoming film marks her return to the mystery genre and her first movie project since 2021’s Recalled.
Geumwoldo is scheduled to begin filming in mid-November, with a theatrical release planned for 2027.
