Former EXO member Tao and singer Xu Yiyang have explained why they kept their son’s birth private for more than two years.
Xu Yiyang revealed during a livestream that she experienced health problems after giving birth in 2024, according to Chinese media reports on October 16th. She said the intense backlash the couple faced at the time made it difficult for them to share the news publicly.
Xu Yiyang explained that dealing with negative public attention was especially difficult while she was recovering from childbirth. Tao reportedly wanted to announce their son’s birth sooner but waited out of respect for his wife’s wishes.
She also addressed speculation about surrogacy and rumors that the couple had two children. Xu Yiyang clarified that she gave birth to their son via C-section and that they have only one child. She added that their son is Chinese and more than two years old.
Xu Yiyang shared a family photo on Weibo on October 15th showing the couple walking along a beach with their son. The child’s ability to walk on his own led some fans to wonder when he was born.
Tao and Xu Yiyang publicly confirmed their relationship in July 2024 and registered their marriage that December. They held their wedding ceremony in October 2025.
