Michelle Yeoh has expressed her desire to work with some of Korea’s most acclaimed filmmakers, including Lee Chang Dong, Park Chan Wook and Bong Joon Ho.
Speaking at a press conference for It’s My Time at the 31st Busan International Film Festival on October 7th, Yeoh said she was particularly interested in collaborating with Lee.
“I am very interested in Korean films, including ‘Possible Love,'” she said. “I definitely want to work with director Park Chan Wook and director Bong Joon Ho as well.”
Yeoh, who previously worked with Jung Woo Sung on the 2010 film Reign of Assassins, said collaborating with Korean talent would not be entirely unfamiliar territory.
She also praised the strength of the country’s film industry.
“Korean cinema is doing very well in the global market and has become a great example for us,” Yeoh said. She then added that she hopes Asian cinema can continue moving forward with that same sense of confidence and pride.
Her enthusiasm extended beyond film. “I also really love K-pop, K-dramas and Korean food, but above all, I love the people of Korea,” she said.

Yeoh was named The Asian Filmmaker of the Year at BIFF’s opening ceremony on October 6th. The award recognizes an Asian film professional who has made exceptional contributions to the advancement of Asian cinema.
The festival is also presenting a special Michelle Yeoh program featuring four titles: Reign of Assassins, Everything Everywhere All at Once, Sean Baker’s short film Sandiwara and It’s My Time, in which Yeoh stars and serves as a producer.
Yeoh became the first Asian actress to win the Academy Award for Best Actress with Everything Everywhere All at Once in 2023. Her other credits include Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Tomorrow Never Dies, Crazy Rich Asians and Wicked.
The 31st Busan International Film Festival runs through October 15th.
