IU and Lee Jong Suk have officially ended their relationship after dating publicly for about four years.
Lee Jong Suk’s agency, Ace Factory, confirmed the breakup to Newsen on July 10th, saying, “It is true that Lee Jong Suk and IU have broken up. They have decided to remain good colleagues.” The agency added that, due to the private nature of their relationship, it was unable to share further details about when or why they separated.
IU’s agency, EDAM Entertainment, also confirmed the news, stating, “It is true that IU has broken up with Lee Jong Suk. They have decided to remain good colleagues.”
The couple first revealed their relationship in December 2022, announcing that they had developed romantic feelings after starting out as colleagues. Since then, they have kept their relationship mostly private while continuing to focus on their careers.
During their time together, IU and Lee Jong Suk showed support for each other’s work. Lee Jong Suk attended IU’s solo concert, cheering her on from the audience, while IU attended the wedding of Lee Jong Suk’s younger sister in October 2022 and performed a congratulatory song.
Both stars have also continued their philanthropic efforts. IU has made several major donations over the years, including a total donation of 200 million won ($140,000) on December 31st last year to support single mothers, child protection programs, hearing-impaired individuals, and youth welfare organizations.
Lee Jong Suk also donated 100 million won ($70,000) on December 30 last year, contributing to medical support programs and hospital development funds.
Although their romantic relationship has come to an end, both agencies emphasized that IU and Lee Jong Suk will continue to support each other as colleagues.
