Jeongyeon is opening up about the difficult period in her life when older sister Gong Seung Yeon stayed by her side through it all.
A preview for next week’s episode of You Quiz on the Block aired on May 13th, featuring Gong Seung Yeon as a guest.
The actress, currently enjoying renewed popularity thanks to Perfect Crown, shared that she proudly told her younger sister she would be appearing on the show. “She said, ‘Even TWICE hasn’t been on there yet,’” Gong Seung Yeon recalled with a laugh.
When host Yoo Jae Suk mentioned that Perfect Crown has been “blowing up,” Gong Seung Yeon joked, “I figured I should hop on the train that global stars like IU and Byeon Woo Seok are riding.”
The preview also touched on her role as the eldest of three sisters. Gong Seung Yeon admitted she used to be strict with her siblings, joking that she once hit them with a phone and had an “If I come over there, you’re dead” mindset.
She also reflected on her own struggles before debuting as an actress. After spending seven years as an SM Entertainment trainee without debuting, she said she felt lost and anxious after leaving the company.
“I remember my mom saying she hoped I would succeed first and help lead the younger sisters along too,” she shared.
The emotional moment came when a surprise letter from Jeongyeon was revealed. “There was a time when I was struggling mentally, and my sister grabbed me and took me to the hospital,” the singer recalled.
The clip has since drawn renewed attention to Jeongyeon’s past health struggles. In 2020, she was diagnosed with Cushing syndrome after suffering steroid side effects during treatment for a herniated disc in her neck, leading to rapid weight gain. She also battled panic and anxiety disorders, eventually stepping away from activities.
Although she briefly returned in 2021, Jeongyeon paused activities again just two months later due to recurring panic disorder symptoms.
Now, the TWICE member has largely recovered both physically and emotionally and has returned to promotions, reconnecting with fans looking noticeably brighter and healthier.
