Moon Geun Young is opening up about her past health battle, revealing the physical and emotional toll it took.

Appearing on You Quiz on the Block, the actress spoke candidly about her 2017 diagnosis with acute compartment syndrome—a rare condition that required four surgeries before she fully recovered.

Looking back, Moon shared that it all began after she slipped on ice and injured her wrist. She initially delayed going to the hospital, but her condition quickly worsened, leading to emergency surgery. “I don’t remember because I had just come out of anesthesia, but I was told I said, ‘Mom, I’m so happy I can finally rest now,’” she recalled. “My mom went outside and cried after hearing that.”

She also revealed her surgical scar for the first time, admitting she hadn’t realized how severe it was. Because of the risk of recurrence, her wound had to be left open for a period of time, adding to the difficulty of her recovery.

“When I finally took off the bandages and saw it for the first time, it looked bad,” she said. “They told me it was a relief that there was no necrosis, but that the nerves in my fingers might not come back. I think I cried then.”

After undergoing multiple procedures, Moon had to regain both nerve and muscle function—and even feared she might not be able to act again. She ultimately made a full recovery after about a year of rehabilitation.
