Yoon Kyung Ho and Kim Hye Yoon are teaming up for the upcoming film High School Detective (literal title), and the project’s unusual character setup is already getting people talking online.
The casting news first surfaced in December when JTBC reported that Yoon Kyung Ho would lead the film. Days later, TenAsia revealed that Kim Hye Yoon had also joined the cast, rounding out the main lineup.
High School Detective is a comedic investigation film about a detective who goes undercover at a high school while investigating a case. When the casting was first announced, many online assumed Kim Hye Yoon would play a student while Yoon Kyung Ho would portray the detective.
However, the film’s premise took an unexpected turn. The story reportedly pairs “mature-looking high school student” Yoon Kyung Ho with “youthful-looking detective” Kim Hye Yoon, creating an intentional role reversal that has sparked mixed reactions online.
Some viewers questioned the idea, calling the concept a bit over-the-top, while others praised it as a refreshing comedic twist.

The conversation gained even more attention when Yoon Kyung Ho’s old graduation photo resurfaced. Many users joked that the casting suddenly made sense, leaving comments such as “So it’s very realistic,” “It feels like they swapped roles,” and “Now I’m even more curious about the movie.”
Yoon Kyung Ho has previously spoken about his mature appearance on television. During an appearance on the tvN talk show You Quiz on the Block last year, he recalled being told he looked like he was in his mid-30s when he was in his third year of middle school. “People often said I looked older just based on photos,” he said, adding that he once even told casting directors he was 10 years older than he actually was after repeatedly failing auditions.
