Yoo Ah In has resurfaced in a rare public sighting.
On September 3rd, DJ Peggy Gou briefly posted a photo on Instagram Stories showing herself alongside director Bong Joon Ho and actor Yoo Ah In, before quickly deleting it. Screenshots of the image, however, spread online.
Peggy Gou’s team explained the following day, noting, “It was a small gathering organized by Peggy Gou. She invited her friends to catch up, and quite a few figures from the entertainment industry were present, including Bong Joon Ho and Yoo Ah In.”
The statement added, “Director Bong attended through his friendship with an actor close to Peggy Gou, while Yoo Ah In was invited as he has known Peggy personally for some time.”
Yoo Ah In, however, remains a controversial figure in South Korea. From September 2020 to March 2022, he was charged with habitually administering medical propofol under the guise of cosmetic procedures—a total of 181 times. Prosecutors also accused him of illegally obtaining more than 1,100 tablets of two types of sleeping pills across 44 prescriptions under other people’s names between May 2021 and August 2023. In January 2023, he was additionally charged with smoking marijuana in the United States and allegedly encouraging others to join him.
In September 2023, Yoo was sentenced to one year in prison at his first trial and taken into custody. In February 2024, the appeals court reduced the sentence to one year with a two-year suspended sentence, leading to his release. Earlier this year, the Supreme Court upheld the ruling of one year in prison, suspended for two years, along with a fine of 2 million KRW (approx. 1,500 USD).
