New details have emerged regarding the late actress Kim Sae Ron’s past relationships.
Money Today reported on May 21st that Kim Sae Ron was romantically involved with a well-known older male K-pop idol around 2018. According to sources, the two briefly separated in early 2019 but rekindled their relationship around mid-2022, during the period when Kim was facing public backlash over a drunk driving incident. It is said that the singer supported Kim financially at the time, reportedly lending her a significant sum of money during her financial hardship.
Kim did not hide the relationship, even introducing the singer to close friends as her boyfriend. Although the two eventually broke up in early 2023, they reportedly remained in contact until later that year. An entertainment insider stated, “They continued to meet as friends even after they parted ways.”
Rumors had previously circulated that one of Kim’s ex-boyfriends was a member of a famous seven-member idol group, but this has been debunked.
In March, Kim’s family claimed through the YouTube channel Garosero Research Institute that she had been in a relationship with Kim Soo Hyun from late 2015, when she was in middle school, until July 2021. The claim was based on text messages Kim is believed to have sent to close friends.
However, the newly revealed relationship with the singer, as well as known relationships with singer WOODZ around 2021–2022 and other unnamed partners in 2016 and 2018, raises questions about possible overlaps in her dating history. Kim Soo Hyun has also stated that he was in a relationship with a former idol-turned-actress from 2016 to 2019, denying involvement with Kim Sae Ron during that time.
Meanwhile, ongoing legal battles involving both Kim Sae Ron and Kim Soo Hyun have become increasingly complex. Allegations that Kim Soo Hyun had a relationship with Kim Sae Ron while she was still a minor have led to multiple investigations. According to a press briefing held by the Seoul Metropolitan Police on May 19th, a total of ten related cases are currently under investigation, seven at the Gangnam Police Station and three at the Seodaemun Police Station.
These include seven complaints and lawsuits filed by Kim Soo Hyun’s side, and three by Kim Sae Ron’s family. Among them is a child welfare law violation claim filed against Kim Soo Hyun, which is being investigated by Gangnam’s Women and Juvenile Crime Division. Another case involving AI manipulation allegations raised by Kim Soo Hyun’s camp is also under investigation at the Gangnam Police Station.
Additionally, a whistleblower complaint submitted by Kim Sae Ron’s legal representative, lawyer Bu Ji Seok of the law firm Buyou, has been transferred from the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission to the Gangnam Police Station. A separate defamation case filed by Kim’s side against YouTuber Lee Jin Ho is being handled by the Seodaemun Police Station. However, police have yet to begin formal questioning in any of these cases.
