aespa is teaming up with G-Dragon for its upcoming pre-release single “WDA (Whole Different Animal).”
Ahead of the release of its second full-length album Lemonade on May 29th, aespa will first drop the single “WDA (Whole Different Animal)” on May 11th at 6 PM KST.
The track is described as a hip-hop-based dance song driven by heavy synth bass and a powerful hook. G-Dragon participated not only as a featured artist, but also contributed to writing the rap for his verse.
aespa’s upcoming album Lemonade will feature 10 tracks across various genres, including the double pre-release title track “WDA.” SM Entertainment teased that the album will showcase both aespa’s expanded universe storyline and the group’s musical growth.
While the collaboration initially surprised many fans and listeners — especially given G-Dragon’s rare involvement with an SM artist — reactions online have been sharply divided.
Some members of the general public reacted with excitement, expressing surprise over the unexpected crossover. However, parts of aespa’s fandom voiced frustration over the decision to include a feature on a group comeback track.
One fan criticized the move, writing, “It’s a Korean comeback and a full album — why bring in a feature? How is this for the fans?” Another commented, “Why does a group song even need a featured artist?”
The response became even more split after teasers spotlighting G-Dragon were also released ahead of the song, fueling ongoing debate between fans and casual listeners online.
