Shin Sae Kyeong has been awarded the Best Supporting Actress award for the film category at the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards, but the decision has sparked a mix of reactions among netizens.
The 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards ceremony was held on May 8th at COEX D Hall in Seoul. Shin Sae Kyeong received the award for her role in the movie HUMINT.
Nominated alongside Shin Sae Kyeong for Best Supporting Actress were Shin Hyun Bin for The Ugly, Yeom Hye Ran for No Other Choice, Jang Hye Jin for The World of Love and Jeon Mi Do for The King’s Warden.
Shin Sae Kyeong, taken aback, took the stage and expressed her gratitude, stating, “I didn’t think I would receive this at all.”
However, the award results led to various reactions online. Notably, a significant number of netizens had anticipated Yeom Hye Ran‘s win. Comments such as “I don’t understand,” “I didn’t expect Shin Sae Kyeong to win,” and “I thought Yeom Hye Ran would win” were seen, reflecting their disappointment.
Discussions about Yeom Hye Ran’s missed award also occurred at the ceremony itself. Lee Sung Min, who won Best Supporting Actor for the film No Other Choice, humorously remarked in his acceptance speech, “Yeom Hye Ran was nominated, and I was so nervous. I even cursed in my heart that she didn’t win.”
Later, Yeom Hye Ran, appearing as a presenter, introduced herself playfully as “Yeom Hye Ran, who just lost,” showing a relaxed demeanor.
Furthermore, director Park Chan Wook, whose film No Other Choice won Best Picture, commented, “I want to thank the judges. Seeing the results, I am confident that a truly fair judgment was made.”
He then looked at Yeom Hye Ran and added, “Yeom Hye Ran might not agree, but please understand. Shin Sae Kyeong also did a great job.”
